Key Takeaways

  • Insta Pack inspects its FIBC bags at every stage of production: raw material, tape strength, fabric strength, printing and packing.
  • The in-house laboratory has 5 fabric tensile testing machines, 2 belt tensile testing machines, 2 UV testing machines, 2 conditioning chambers, 1 jumbo rig machine and 10 electronic weighing scales, all last calibrated in March 2026.
  • Insta Pack is certified to ISO 9001:2015 (quality management) and ISO 22000:2018 (food safety management).
  • The facility is aligned with BRC Global Standards, and the company is working towards BRCGS, Sedex and CROHMIQ® certification.
  • The key quality numbers on any FIBC are its safe working load (SWL) and safety factor: 5:1 for single-trip and 6:1 for multi-trip bags under ISO 21898.

A jumbo bag is one of those products nobody thinks about until it fails. And when a bag carrying a tonne of fertilizer or minerals fails, it is never a small problem: product is lost, a line stops and, worst of all, someone nearby can get hurt. That is why, for us, FIBC bag quality is not a department. It is how the whole plant is run.

In this article we open the doors of our Silvassa facility and explain how we control the quality of Insta Pack FIBC bags, what the numbers on a bag specification mean, and what you should ask any FIBC supplier before placing an order.

What Does Quality Mean in an FIBC Bag?

Buyers often judge a jumbo bag by how it looks and feels. A good finish matters, but real FIBC quality comes down to five things:

Strength: the bag safely carries its rated load, with the required safety margin.

Consistency: every bag in the order performs like the sample you approved.

Dimensional accuracy: the bag fits your filling station, pallet and container.

Cleanliness: especially for food, pharma and other sensitive products.

Correct specification: fabric weight, coating, liner, UV protection and static type matched to your product and use.

Understanding Safe Working Load (SWL) and Safety Factor (SF)

Every FIBC is designed around two numbers. The safe working load (SWL) is the maximum weight the bag is designed to carry in normal use, for example 1,000 kg. The safety factor (SF) is the ratio between the load the bag must withstand in testing and its SWL.

Under ISO 21898, the international standard for FIBCs for non-dangerous goods, single-trip bags are designed to a 5:1 safety factor and multi-trip bags to 6:1. So a single-trip bag rated at 1,000 kg must withstand a test load of 5,000 kg. The standard's cyclic top-lift test also lifts the bag 30 times at twice its SWL before the final load is applied, which simulates the repeated stresses of real handling.

In India, the Bureau of Indian Standards has also published an Indian Standard for FIBCs, IS 14738. Whichever standard your market follows, the principle is the same: a bag must be designed and tested with a generous margin, because real-world handling is never as gentle as a laboratory.

How We Control Quality at Every Stage

Our quality policy is simple to state and demanding to follow: inspect at every stage, starting with raw material and ending with packing.

1. Raw material selection

Good bags start with good polymer. We choose raw materials carefully, because no amount of inspection later can fix a weak resin or the wrong additive.

2. Tape strength

Tapes from our extrusion lines are checked for strength. The tape is the building block of the fabric, so this is where consistency begins.

3. Fabric strength and weight

Woven fabric is checked for weight (gsm) on our electronic weighing scales and for tensile strength on our fabric tensile testing machines. Our conditioning chambers let us bring samples to controlled temperature and humidity before testing, so results are reliable and comparable from batch to batch.

4. Lifting belts

The loops carry the entire load, so belts have their own dedicated tensile testing machines.

5. UV resistance

For bags that will be used or stored outdoors, we add UV stabiliser at the tape stage and check performance on our UV testing machines, which expose samples to accelerated ultraviolet light.

6. Finished bag testing

Our jumbo rig machine lets us lift-test finished bag designs in-house, so we can verify that the fabric, loops and stitching work together as one system.

7. Printing and packing

Printing is checked for accuracy and legibility, because handling instructions and product identification matter on the ground. Finished bags are then packed and baled on jumbo bale presses for safe, compact shipping.

Food-Grade FIBC Bags

Food, grain and ingredient customers need more than strength. Our food safety management system is certified to ISO 22000:2018, and we manufacture germ-free, pollutant-free packaging bags suitable for the food industry. Liners of 15 to 120 microns can be added where the product needs an extra barrier.

What to Ask Any FIBC Supplier Before You Buy

Which standard are your bags designed and tested to, and at what safety factor?

Can you share test results for the bag design I am buying (top-lift, fabric and belt tensile)?

Where is testing done, and when was the equipment last calibrated?

Which certifications do you hold today, and which are in progress?

If I need food-grade bags, which food safety system covers your production?

If my bags will be stored outdoors, how is UV resistance provided and tested?

How do you make sure the bulk order matches the approved sample?

A good supplier will answer all seven without hesitation. We encourage our customers to ask us exactly these questions. Talk to our team at info@instapack.info or +91 70020 74721, or visit www.instapack.info.
